Common types of eating disorders

Anorexia nervosa

Bulimia nervosa

Losing control over food and consuming large amount of food in a short period of time, just like in bulimia, but in the absence of compensatory behaviours, which can lead to weight gain.

Orthorexia: An obsession with eating food that is considered “healthy” and feeling guilty if foods perceived as “unhealthy” are consumed. 



Bigorexia: Obsession over feelings of not having enough muscle mass, often doing excessive exercise, or taking excessive amount of supplements to increase muscle mass.

Enhanced cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT-E) is the strongest evidence-based treatment for adults with an eating disorder. You do not need a diagnosed eating condition to see an eating disorder dietitian. 

The consultations are tailored to your specific eating conditions and your needs, each session is devoted to a deep exploration of you and your habits to improve your condition. You will work together, as a team, with your dietitian to help you overcome your disordered eating. You will have weekly follow-up sessions to work on your progress and to support you on your recovery journey.
