What to expect by working with a diabetes nutritionist?

  1. At the time of your initial consultation, your personal dietitian will do an assessment to find out more about your health history, current eating habits and lifestyle and anything else that may be relevant to help identify the root cause of the issue.
  2. Your nutritionist will then suggest appropriate changes to your diet and lifestyle that are most suitable for you. Our recommendations are always tailored to your specific needs. You will work on a joint plan with your diabetes nutritionist to help you make the
  3. Your practitioner will also calculate your basal metabolism and your nutrient needs to create a bespoke meal plan to give you a structure to follow.
  4. Your personal nutritionist will advise on any specific testing which may be valuable, and create a blood test referral letter for your GP or privately.
  5. A follow-up plan will be created with you, to make sure you get the help and support you need to reach your goals efficiently and permanently.  
  6. Your dietitian specialist may ask you to complete a food diary if worthwhile after the initial consultation by using our friendly mobile App, and you will be invited to use the App to communicate by message with your dietitian between the consultations to support you throughout your journey.

While there is no cure for type 2 diabetes, it is possible for some people to reverse it permanently. Through dietary and lifestyle changes and weight loss, you can reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. However as diabetes type 2 is an ongoing disease, this is why it is essential to make healthy and sustainable changes.

With the help of our dietitian specialist, we have seen complete remission in as little as 3 months, but it may take up to 6 months or longer for others, depending on how far you are with your diabetes, and how much you adhere and respond to the change recommended.

Diabetes type 1 and diabetes type 3c are less common then diabetes type 2, and although these conditions are not reversible, our diabetes can help you improve your blood glucose levels and adjust your insulin doses so that your blood sugar is stable and vary less.  

If you urinate more frequently than usual, you feel very thirsty, tired, you lose weight without understanding why, or if you have blurred vision, you may want to test for diabetes type 2 and consult a dietitian.

It is always useful to have a copy of your results within the last 6 months, and we may ask you to repeat a blood test within 3 to 6 months of your initial consultation to compare the results.

We may advise on any specific testing if beneficial, and we can work with your local GP, or privately, depending on your preference.

We interchange between nutritionist and dietitian on our website as both titles are often incorrectly understood, but we only have registered dietitian as dietitians have the highest level of education, and the title is protected and regulated. Whereas anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.
